The awards are presented to distinguished past and present residents of Akron and Summit County who have been recognized nationally for inspirational
accomplishment and whose life stories continue to impact our community.
The honorary chair of the 2013 Summit Awards was Rob Briggs, the past president of the GAR Foundation and chairman emeritus and former CEO of Buckingham, Doolittle and Burroughs, LLP. He currently is the board chairman of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
This year’s honorees included:Harvey Firestone, Sr. - Industrialism, Carol Heiss Jenkins, Hayes Jenkins and Dr. David Jenkins – Sports, Melina Kanakaredes – Entertainment, Woodrow Nash – The Arts, Dr. Haynes Robinson – Medicine, and Brevet Major General Alvin Voris - Humanitarianism.
