The Akron General Foundation, with support from PNC Bank, presents “An Evening of Jazz with BWB,” with special guest Lalah Hathaway, on Saturday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Akron Civic Theatre, 182 South Main Street, Akron. All proceeds benefit the Akron General Heart and Vascular Center.
The contemporary jazz supergroup BWB is back with a new album and tour this summer, 11 years after the highly successful debut release of Groovin’ and tour. Comprised of Norman Brown, Kirk Whalum and Rick Braun, their musical passion and intensity defines the truest heart and soul of today’s contemporary jazz. Their newest collaborative, Human Nature, is a tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and features the reworkings of Jackson hits including “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” “Man in the Mirror” and others.
Special guest Lalah Hathaway is R&B/soul music royalty – the daughter of the late soul legend Donny Hathaway. A trained pianist and vocalist, her career has spanned two decades and fuses elements of R&B, jazz and pop. Hathaway captivates audiences by channeling the essence of her father’s spirit in her music, while adding her signature flare. Her ability to touch a listener’s soul in one phrase is an extraordinary gift that is synonymous with the Hathaway brand.
