From a tree in bright fall oranges and golds to a quaint downtown street, Plein Air artists capture the beauty of Summit County by painting outdoors on location. The Ohio Plein Air Society hosts the 23rd annual Plein Air Art Competition Sept. 17 to 20. Participants gather up their paints and brushes and head to places of intrigue within the county’s borders, using these settings to paint stunning landscapes. The competition is open to professionals, amateurs and hobbyists alike. “Artists come from other states as well to gather and share the experience of Plein Air painting,” says chairperson Craig Staufer. Held outside of Summit Artspace Sept. 20, a free wrap-up event starts with a quick draw contest between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and is followed by a wet paint sale, where artists can sell pieces they created during the event. Also stay for an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. and view competition pieces painted in our backyard.
