Treat your taste buds — and feast your eyes — at the Blooming Brew Cafe. At this Fairlawn spot, you can pick up a bouquet of blossoms from a flower bar when you order your daily beverage, pairing fresh smoothies, lattes and more with beautiful arrangements.
“I feel like there’s a niche missing for these really beautiful drinks,” says Blooming Brew owner and founder Giovanna Knudsen. “I love our local cafes, but not a lot of places are going to have dairy-free cold foam and really cool, unique, different flavors on a weekly basis. … I thought that’s maybe where we could fit in.”
Located inside Altitude Social House, a wellness and lifestyle collective also founded by Knudsen, Blooming Brew crafts creative drinks, some of them rotating, with new creations out on Mondays.
Order the popular Teddy Graham latte — made with a vanilla honey latte base, vanilla cinnamon cold foam and crumbled Teddy Grahams on top — and pair it with a mini bouquet for a Bloom & Brew bundle. Customers can gather their own arrangements or order bouquets, ranging from one to six focal flower bouquets.
“Pick your focal stem, and then you want to have accents,” Knudsen says. “When you’re building your bouquets here, we will kind of zhuzh it up for you and make it look cute.”
Enjoy a peach matcha cloud refresher or a PB protein punch performance smoothie, and try the Purple Haze ($6.50-$8.50) — a hazelnut shaken espresso with an ube cold foam — or the Candy Bar latte ($6.50-$8.50), a caramel base with espresso, caramel vanilla cold foam and a chocolate and caramel drizzle. “It literally tastes like you’re drinking a Snickers,” Knudsen says. “It’s super, super yummy.”
Sip on the patio with pink furniture for a relaxing environment to indulge in beverages and eats, including avocado toast, protein bites and a granola or acai bowl.
“People love a good Instagrammable moment, and we give that to them,” Knudsen says. “We have created a spot that’s a destination.”
Blooming Brew utilizes local sources for its flowers and ingredients.
“We use Akron Honey, Leaf Home and Blooms, they’re who provides our flowers,” says Knudsen. “We get our breads from Breads. We get our syrups either house-made or our syrups are from Sage Lane. She’s a local creator of syrups. And so we try to use everyone local as much as we can, so that way we’re supporting other small businesses.”
While visiting Blooming Brew, stop by other small businesses and amenities in Altitude, such as the By Invitation Event Venue, with space for up to 50 guests to gather; Zēl Vitality, which provides customers with wellness options including an infrared sauna, cold plunge, and IV therapy; Rogue Awakening, owned and founded by Knudsen, which offers Pilates, yoga and more; Artelē Aesthetic Collective, which offers injectables, eyelash extensions, chemical peels and other services; and Fertility PT, focusing on pelvic health physical therapy. Parents can even drop their kids off at an on-site childcare center.
“I hear a lot that our space reminds people of something that they would see in maybe New York or LA or a bigger metropolitan-type area, and they’re like, What are you doing in Fairlawn, Ohio? Well, this is where my family is,” Knudsen says. “I want my home to be a place that I can enjoy and that I love, and that’s what I want for other people.”
