Headed to Akron Life's Best of the City event Sept 23rd? Curious what to wear or the best accessory you can bring?
Confidence — and a plan.
No, but seriously, let’s map this evening out together, so we make the most of your time at the “who’s who of Akron” gathering at House Three Thirty.
Let's Give Them Something to Talk About
Do you ever see a person at a party or restaurant with a really cool, unique bag or great shoes? It's almost impossible not to comment or ask them about it. Let's follow their lead, and wear something comment-worthy! Think accessories that include animal or funny prints or everyday items with a hidden use.
Some of my favorite pieces in my own collection include these bags:

There’s a little science behind this: a conversation-starting accessory can help break the ice in a room full of people. Partygoers can't help but ask, Where did you get that?, which can lead into a long, meaningful conversation with someone you just met.
Go for the WOW
You know the one — it’s that dress or top that’s been hanging in your closet, waiting for an occasion worthy of it. Well, this is the occasion.
One thing I’ve learned through my own experience — and from those wiser than me — is to stop “putting off” wearing certain clothes. Make that day today. Akron Life’s Best of the City is exactly the kind of event where you can be a little more dressed up than you normally would be. So go ahead — wear the outfit. You’ve been waiting long enough to wear it!
Have a First-Hour Game Plan
While attending various networking events in the area, I was taught to have a First-Hour-Game Plan. Yes, you can spend hours getting ready and putting together the perfect look, but if you’re not introducing yourself and mingling with the people who are the reason you’re at the event in the first place — why even go?
One thing I’d love for you to do is cut down on your getting-ready time and dedicate some of that effort to finding out who will be attending. Think about a few questions you can ask and ways to break the ice!
And here’s a bonus tip: Take a photo with the people you meet, save their numbers in your phone and then follow up with that photo in the days afterward.
It’s personal, memorable and an easy way to stand out!
Do Shop Local and Ask for Help
I had the absolute pleasure of shopping for options at Best Bib and Tucker in downtown Hartville and let me tell you—this darling store is absolutely brimming with charm!
This mother-daughter duo has a true gift for helping so many of us find the perfect date-night frocks, reception gowns and special-occasion looks. Seriously, if you’re looking for something unique for work or date-night or a special occasion, you’ll want to make a stop here. Meg and her Mom are like fairy godmums and work tirelessly in this hidden gem consignment shop.
I plan on sporting a dress Meg helped me pick out!
If you have an upcoming event and need options, put Best Bib and Tucker on your list! You never know what treasure you’ll find.
