Aeros and Habitat for Humanity form partnership

The Akron Aeros and the Habitat for Humanity of Summit County have entered into a partnership for the 2013 Eastern League season.

Habitat for Humanity will be the beneficiary of the nightly 50/50 raffle at all 71 Aeros’ games at Canal Park. Fifty percent of the revenue from raffle-ticket sales during the games will go to the winner of the raffle drawing and 50 percent will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Habitat for Humanity for all 71 home games this season and help communicate their mission to all of our fans,” said Aeros general manager Jim Pfander.

Habitat for Humanity focuses on bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope with its goal of providing decent, affordable housing. Rochelle Fisher, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Summit County, thinks this relationship will be a big benefit.

“Habitat for Humanity is geared up for this exciting new partnership with the Akron Aeros. It is a great way to raise funds to support building and repairing homes in Summit County. Aeros owner Ken Babby and general manager Jim Pfander have been great to work with and our leadership are pleased to put this unique fundraising opportunity into play for the 2013 baseball season,” said Fisher.

Connecting with and being a part of the Akron community is an important goal for the Aeros under Babby’s ownership and Pfander thinks Babby’s vision “perfectly lines up with the mission of Habitat for Humanity.”

Habitat’s Fisher has her own baseball connection that makes this partnership personally special because her father, John Sibbio, is a member of the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame located at Canal Park.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to bring together my family and my work under the blue skies and sunshine of a baseball game,” said Fisher.

The two organizations started working together prior to the season and are ready to continue throughout the season.
