Akron Film+Pixel to unveil The Collective Soundtrack

Last Week, the Akron Film+Pixel and a handful of local musicians gathered at the Akron Art Museum to kick off an event wherein musicians will each score a 3-5 minute piece of the classic silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

akronlife caught up with Akron Film+Pixel executive director Steve Felix to learn more about the intriguing project.

“We want our projects to reach different creative fields, and we hadn't done anything for musicians yet, so our staff member Jacob Trombetta proposed a group scoring event,” he said.

While most of the organization's projects focus on standalone creations, The Collective Soundtrack will be the first time artists will be able to collaborate on something special.

“This is the closest we've come to having everyone work on a single project, albeit without communicating,” he said. “It's also our first music-centered event.”

The finished product will be unveiled at a free public screening on August 16th at 7:00pm at the Akron Art Museum.

“Those in attendence should expect wildly varied interpretations of the visuals by participating musicians, many of whom will be present,” Felix explained. “The shifting styles should keep us on our toes and provide a fresh perspective on this essential film.”
