Akronite to premiere film exploring Disney-built town of Celebration, Florida

NYC-based filmmaker Philip B. Swift returns to his hometown of Akron, Ohio to premiere his first feature length film, “The Bubble: a Documentary about Celebration, Florida.”

The Disney Company built Celebration in 1994 on the southern edge of Walt Disney World. Now home to over 10,000 people, tourists flock there to see what life is like in the planned community that residents affectionately call “the bubble.”  In recent years, violent crimes and a rumored swinger’s scene have brought enhanced fascination and questions about the sustainability of the community.  Through extensive interviews with the residents, the film captures the never-before-documented oral history of the town.

In a very special premiere event for the film, Swift’s childhood friend and Musician, Gabe Schray whose music is featured on the film’s soundtrack will join Swift for a live performance after the screening. Schray and Swift have partnered on many projects since high school. Two years ago, Schray’s music was featured in Swift’s award-winning short documentary, Sincerely, P.V. Reese.

“The Bubble: a Documentary about Celebration, Florida” along with a live soundtrack performace by musician Gabe Schray will take place on Friday, December 28 at Akron's own Musica. The event will get underway starting at 7 PM.

Musica is located at 51 E Market Street, Akron, Ohio.
