Chagrin Arts and Apollo’s Fire to present “A Night at Bach’s Coffeehouse”

Chagrin Arts will continue its 2013 Performing Arts Series with Apollo’s Fire on Thursday, March 21 at 7:30pm at Federated Church, 76 Bell Street Chagrin Falls, OH.

Apollo’s Fire will re-create the musical atmosphere of the famous Zimmermann’s Coffeehouse in Leipzig, where the hardworking J.S. Bach liked to let his hair down to perform lively chamber music and concertos.  This exclusive program is being offered outside of the Apollo’s Fire subscription series and can only be seen in Chagrin Falls.  Tickets range from $21-$60 for adults and $10 for students and may be purchased by phone at (440) 247-9700; in person at the Chagrin Arts Office, 88 N. Main Street, Chagrin Falls; or online at www.chagrinarts.org.

Chagrin Arts is thrilled to welcome back Apollo’s Fire, which has been hailed as “The U.S.A’s hottest baroque band” by Classical Music Magazine (United Kingdom).  “Apollo’s Fire never ceases to amaze,” said Liz O’Neil, Chagrin Arts Executive Director.  “This special performance is sure to heat things up and lead us into spring!”

A Night at Bach’s Coffeehouse boasts of the Musical Offering Trio Sonata, the Sonata in E minor for Flute and Continuo, and Jeannette Sorrell’s lauded version of Vivaldi’s wild “La Folia”.  Additionally, the audience will hear Brandenburg Concerto No.5 featuring the intricate harpsichord cadenza for which Sorrell has received international praise.  This performance is co-presented with Apollo’s Fire and is the only local performance.

Named for the classical god of music and the sun, Apollo's Fire was founded in 1992 by the award- winning young harpsichordist and conductor Jeannette Sorrell. Sorrell envisioned an ensemble dedicated to the baroque ideal that music should evoke the various Affekts or passions in the listeners. Apollo's Fire is a collection of creative artists who share Sorrell's passion for drama and rhetoric.  The ensemble has toured throughout North America and Europe and has released 18 commercial CDs.

A pre-concert lecture by Johanna Novom will be presented one hour before the performance, sponsored by the Friends of Apollo’s Fire.
