Torchbearers to host AkRun & Crawl in August

Torchbearers, a young professionals’ organization working to enhance Greater Akron, will host its sixth annual AkRun & Crawl on Saturday, August 18.

The event includes a 5K run along the Towpath Trail followed by a pub crawl in Downtown Akron. Proceeds from the event benefit Torchbearers and Downtown Akron Partnership. Interested participants can register for the race and pub crawl or just the pub crawl at TorchbearersAkron.com/Akrun.

The race will begin at 5 p.m. with remarks from the chief executive officer of Main Street Gourmet, Steve Marks. Race registration starts at 3:30 p.m. behind the AES Building, located at 388 South Main Street. The first 300 registrants will receive an AkRun & Crawl t-shirt, a goody bag, race prizes, and food and drink specials at the pub crawl stops.

The Pub Crawl and post-race awards will start at 6 p.m. at ZAR Nightclub & Martini Bar, located at 349 South Main Street. From there, it will travel to Primo’s Deli, 69 Taps and will conclude at Paolo's. The AkRun & Crawl is sponsored by ZAR Nightclub & Martini Bar, Second Sole and Roetzel & Andress, LPA.

Torchbearers is a young professional organization focused on building a better Greater Akron community through leadership development and service. The organization was founded in 2003 to strengthen the connection between Akron area non-profits and young people and to further efforts to attract and retain young people to Greater Akron. In 2009, Leadership Akron and Torchbearers signed an agreement to work more closely together to foster leadership across generations. Today, the

membership is nearly 100 strong and reflects the diversity found across the Greater Akron young professional community.
