Your Sister's Sister is a breath of fresh air

Already a breakout at film festivals earlier this year, Your Sister's Sister is a breath of fresh air for moviegoers tired of the same old love triangles prominent in most romantic comedies. Emily Blunt and Rosemarie Dewitt join Mark Duplass in this new independent film that sheds some light on coping with those we have lost and moving on with the help of those most dear to us.

After the death of his brother, Jack (Duplass) is insisted by his best friend Iris (Blunt) to spend some time alone at her family's secluded cabin in hopes of aiding his grieving process. Instead Jack finds that Iris' sister Hannah, who is attempting to drink away any thought of the demise of a seven year relationship, has beat him to it. A one night stand followed by the surprise arrival of Iris the following morning sets up the audience for a complex entanglement of love, lose and everything in-between.

The acting here is fantastic and could have easily suffered a stale mate in the hands of big name actor's with paychecks (and egos) larger than Your Sister's Sister's entire budget. Thankfully, Duplass, DeWitt and Blunt deliver work that should be recognized by year's end at the Independent Spirit Awards – the indie equivalent of the Academy Awards. Director Lynn Shelton, who drew national acclaim a few years back thanks to her critical darling Humpday, successful captures a slice of life unseen in most films of its kind in recent years.

The film's solid direction, sharp writing and impressively engaging performances from all those involved makes Your Sister's Sister a film well worth seeking out.
