Akron Zoo forms Howls & Growls with Magical Theatre

The Akron Zoo and the Magical Theatre in Barberton have teamed up to form the Howls & Growls Team to promote the zoo’s upcoming opening of the Mike & Mary Stark Grizzly Ridge. The Howls & Growls Team will represent the zoo in the community this summer as well as attend the grand opening of Grizzly Ridge on July 20, 2013.

The Howls & Growls Team will be performing a short skit at several community events and be interacting with the public. The skit features a family living out in the woods talking about Grizzly Ridge coming to Akron and includes kids that play the roles of the bear and coyote, grandpa and a fiddler. They talk a little about each animal that will be in the new exhibit and then, through audience participation, will have the audience howl and growl and do the howl & growl hoedown.

The Howls & Growls Team will make 15 appearances throughout the summer. For a complete list of appearances check the zoo’s website.

Grizzly Ridge will be one of the zoo’s largest exhibit openings in history. It will include grizzly bears, red wolves, coyotes, otters, bald eagles and more.

The Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Zoo hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and admission is $10 for adults, $8.50 for senior citizens and $7 for children (ages 2-14). Children under two are free and parking is $2.00. For more information visit www.akronzoo.org or call (330) 375-2550.
