Out to Lunch

My husband, Ron, has been known to drive to Medina to pick up a couple of boxes of chicken wings on cheap wing night at BW3, but I’m thinking The Wing Warehouse may just be a new contender for his affections.

I went to the downtown Warehouse for lunch yesterday with our intern Denise Wright and the Downtown Akron Partnership (where in the name of full disclosure, I admit our daughter Courtney is interning this summer). It was like all my worlds were converging…

Anyway, it’s a fun location overlooking the Akron Aeros stadium. Because there wasn’t a game when we ate there, our group of 16 or so pretty much had the place to itself. If you’re downtown at lunchtime, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Lotsa varieties of wings, bone-in and boneless, are just 40 cents each (minimum of 8) on Mondays. Baskets of fresh cut fries, French fried mushrooms and onion petals, made to order, were popular with our group. The heaping buffalo chicken salad, served with pita, looked pretty inviting, too.

I got the dry-rub Cajun wings. They were hotter than I bargained for and a little heavy handed on the dry rub, so next time, I’ll go milder. Thankfully I also got a side salad (diced tomatoes, mixed cheddar, onions and croutons over chopped lettuce). It was a generous portion, tasted really fresh and was a good accompaniment to the hot wings. My bill was $7.12.

Wing Warehouse has about a dozen local locations and seems to be growing fast. Their menu is extensive, and the downtown staff is friendly and helpful.

I didn’t try the Long Island iced tea or hillbilly cake this time around, but I’ll be back…
