Winemaker Jayson Woodbridge is the driving force behind Cherry Tart wines. Cherry Tart wines are an example of his visionary winemaking from different AVA area’s in California. Several times a year he travels the world, making wines from Australia, Italy, Argentina and different area’s in California. One of his best known brands is Layer Cake and his Shiraz from Australia is a huge success.

Today, his creation of Cherry Tart Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is another success story. The Wine Spectator recently gave his Cherry Tart Pinot Noir a “Smart Buy” and a rating of 90 points.

Cherry Tart Pinot Noir

The Cherry Tart Pinot Noir is produced from three different AVA’s (Rodgers Creek Vineyard in the Sonoma Coast, Alta Loma Vineyard in Monterey County and Los Alamos Vineyard in Santa Barbara). Jayson Woodbridge blends grapes for different flavor profiles from these three AVA’s to create his Cherry Tart Pinot Noir. He calls this his artisan micro winemaking approach to making redefined wines.

The tasting notes from the winery say that “the 2013 Cherry Tart Pinot Noir jumps from the glass with aromas of raspberry, nutmeg, sandalwood and light smokiness, lifted by a floral note. Silky and delicate up front, with ripe acidity framing the rich, sweet flavors of red berries, red cherry and earth. The wine finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a very good length.” It retails for $19.99.

Cherry Tart Chardonnay

The Cherry Tart Chardonnay is produced from three different AVA’s (Stanly Ranch Vineyards in the Napa Valley, Oak Meadows Vineyards in the Sonoma Russian River area and the Garcia Vineyards in Monterey County). This wine is created from these three distinct, multi-regional vineyards to blend and produce a rich and balanced Chardonnay.

The tasting notes from the winery say “abundant floral and white fruit aromas jump from the glass; lychee nut, honeysuckle and peach marmalade. Incredibly rich and textured, with loads of caramelized pear, pineapple and exotic marmalade notes, this sexy beast of a Chardonnay has brilliant delineation and stunning length along with undeniable minerality.” This wine retails for $19.99.

You can order or find these outstanding Cherry Tart wines at Acme Fresh Markets, Buehler’s Fresh Foods, West Point Market or your favorite wine retailer in the Greater Akron Area.

Wine Wisdom

A wine’s length or finish is a measurement of its after-flavor – the impression and flavor it leaves in the mouth after being swallowed. Wines with longer finishes tend to be good candidates for aging.
