Root:1 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

While most vineyards around the world are planned on grafted rootstock, the Chilean vineyards where Root: 1 is grown are still on ungrafted vines. “Chile is a true rarity in the world and is the only major wine growing country that has not experienced phylloxera.” Phylloxera started in European rootstocks and is an insect that destroys the grape vine. Unique geographic and climatic forces have allowed this part of the world to be disease-free, and grapes to be grown on its original rootstock.

Chile’s Colchagua Valley is world renowned for producing quality Cabernets with great flavors that are exceptional in quality. Root:1 Cabernet Sauvignon is known for its elegant, lush, ripe fruit flavors. Try serving it with steaks, ribs, pasta with red sauce or full-flavored cheeses.

“Being close to the Pacific Ocean, the coastal vineyards of Casablanca is the perfect microclimate for producing fresh, fruit-expressive Chardonnay,” says winemaker Felipe Tosso. This Root: 1 Chardonnay is balanced and is an excellent value with great fruit flavors. Serve it as a before dinner drink or with grilled seafood, chicken or light pasta dishes.

Root:1 is available at selected Acme Fresh Markets, Buehler Food Markets, Heinen’s, Wine Reserve of Medina, Hudon’s North End Market, Riverside Wine & Imports, Papa Joe’s, 750 ML and better wine retailers throughout Northeast Ohio. It retails for around $14.99.
