Custom Built to Perfection

Searching for the perfect place to call home can sometimes feel impossible. This house is too large, this one too small. These issues can add a lot of strife to an already stressful situation. However, custom builds offer a solution for many in the market. Why start from scratch when there are homes already there, ready to go? “Because they want it the way they want it,” says Mike Burianek, president/owner of Modern Home Concepts in Medina.

Burianek works closely with clients as he builds their perfect home. “We’re not a national builder; we’re not a cookie cutter.” The local company does not mass-produce floor plans or ask customers to only pick from a handful of models. Instead, they customize each house to suit the owner’s needs.

There are many reasons why prospective homeowners decide to invest in a custom-built home. One is efficiency. “It used to be that everyone had to have a formal dining room,” says Burianek. Unused in many households, the dinning room has fallen to the wayside. “It’s probably 60/40, with 60 percent of people saying ‘we don’t want a formal dining room.’” The extra space can be transformed into a study or eliminated entirely, with an enlarged kitchen compensating as the new dinning space. “We’re designing the house where their kitchen area is now becoming a lot larger, and they’re putting in large tables because that’s where everybody’s congregating.”

Small details are also being integrated into custom builds. Features like dog baths and shower units, as well as animal pens hidden in plain sight—built into kitchen cabinetry—are all gaining popularity.

Customers looking for the perfect space for their family may only need to search their imagination.
