Nationwide Insurance Foundation donates 45k to Foodbank

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has received a grant of $45,000 from the Nationwide Insurance Foundation.

The Foodbank is receiving the funds as a part of a $1.25 million donation that Nationwide Insurance Foundation made to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. Feeding America’s member food banks in 19 communities where Nationwide Insurance employees live and work will receive this donation.

“Nationwide is a strong partner in the fight against hunger,” said Dan Flowers, president and CEO of the Foodbank. “We are extremely grateful for support from companies like Nationwide who are committed to helping those in need within our state.

"At Nationwide, our mission is to support the communities where we live and work when it matters most,” said Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Insurance Foundation. “So it’s our pleasure to partner with Feeding America, an organization with an outstanding track record of providing one of life’s most basic necessities. We believe that we can do more together than we can alone.”

In addition to Nationwide Insurance Foundation’s financial support, thousands of Nationwide associates donate to food drives and volunteer at food banks across the country each year. In May, local Nationwide associates came to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to volunteer and helped repack food that was distributed to more than 500 different agencies in the Foodbank’s eight-county service are.

Food insecurity remains high in Northeast Ohio according to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap data. For example, in the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank service area 15.7% or 240,000 residents are food insecure.
