3/23 “Planet Earth” The sounds and images of the Arctic Circle and of Antarctica are joined with Respighi’s well-known “The Pines of Rome” for a special evening of music. Rautavaara uses the recordings of arctic birds in Cantus Arcticus, while Vaughan Williams’ Sinfonia Antarctica was originally used as the soundtrack to a documentary film about the Scott expedition to Antarctica.
