Akron Women's Rugby Club: Prom on the Pitch
to
Akron Rugby Pitch 1763 Wadsworth Road, Akron, Ohio 44320
The teams are raising funds and donated items for the shelter throughout the game. The shelter is in need of clothes, nonperishable food, cell phones including chargers, and toiletries. Monetary donations will be accepted.
This game is unique because all players on both teams will play in “prom” dresses instead of the Rugby uniform. A sight not to miss and great photo opportunity!
"The Battered Women’s Shelter has benefitted greatly from the support provided to us each year by the Women’s team from the Akron Rugby Football Club. I love the event because it provides the perfect opportunity to talk about the importance of leaving aggressiveness, competition and combat on the sports field and out of our homes and personal relationships,” said Terri Heckman, Executive Director for Battered Women’s Shelter. “Not only does the team raise money to support the shelters needs but they also donate gently used clothing and consumable items such as diapers and toilet paper. The Shelter will be able to provide field trips to the children staying in the shelter with the money raised from this wonderful and fun community event. Over 200 children have benefitted from the field trips since Prom On The Pitch started in 2007." For more information on the Battered Women's Shelter visit www.scmcbws.org.
