Rhapsody in Blue: Akron Symphony Orchestra
to
The University of Akron's EJ Thomas Performing Arts Hall 198 Hill Street, Akron, Ohio 44325
The 20’s and 30’s were a Golden Age in American music. It was an eclectic era that could inspire brilliant ‘classical’ works by Barber as well as the immortal jazzclassical hybrids of George Gershwin. The only composer to combine these two worlds as successfully as Gershwin was Leonard Bernstein, whose West Side Story is an unrivaled masterpiece of American musical theater.
