Torchbearers 7th Annual 5k AkRun & Crawl

Race registration is still open for the Torchbearers 7th Annual 5K AkRun & Pub Crawl event on Saturday, August 17, 2013.

The event includes a 5K run along the Towpath Trail followed by a pub crawl in downtown Akron. Race registration begins at 3:30 p.m. behind the AES Building, located at 388 South Main Street in downtown Akron. The race will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the pub crawl will begin at 6:00 p.m. at ZAR Nightclub and Martini Bar, located at the corner of Main St. and Exchange St. in downtown Akron. Race results will also be announced at ZAR. Additional pub crawl stops include Primo's Deli, Kings, and Paolo's. Free t-shirts are available for the first 300 5K Run & Pub Crawl participants.

Participants may register in advance for the 5K run, the pub crawl, or both. Registration is available by visiting www.torchbearersakron.com. Registration for the 5K run and the pub crawl is $25 in advance, $30 the day of the event. For those wishing to participate in the pub crawl only, registration is $15 in advance, $20 the day of the event.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Akron Children’s Museum project, an effort to bring the first children’s museum to downtown Akron, and the Downtown Akron Partnership. Torchbearers is a young professional organization focused on building a better Greater Akron community through leadership development and service. The organization was founded in 2003 to strengthen the connection between Akron area non-profits and young people and to further efforts to attract and retain young people to Greater Akron. In 2009, Leadership Akron and Torchbearers signed an agreement to work more closely together to foster leadership across generations.
