World Tour of Music: West African Drumming and Dance Extravaganza with Sogbety Diamande
Highland High School Auditorium 4150 Ridge Road, Akron, Ohio 44256
ORMACO opens its 2016-17 World Tour of Music concert series with a West African Drumming and Dance Extravaganza led by Sogbety Diomande, native of the Ivory Coast. Enjoy a stunning cultural stage show, complete with vibrant costumes, intense drumming, beautiful dancing and native songs.
A professional drummer and dancer, Diomande uses his art form to raise awareness of the need to respect and honor human diversity in hopes that the knowledge gained by participants will lead to the desire to learn more about African cultures and other ethnic groups.
The recipient of the 2013 Ohio Heritage Fellowship for Performing Arts, Diomande previously was a member of Ballet National de Cote d’Ivoire. Since moving to the United State in 1997, Diomande has performed with a number of dance companies, including the Mask Dance Company, the Kotchenga Dance Company, Company Kobake, the Djoniba Dance Company, and Tokounou, a Guinean dance and drum company. He also performed on Jimmy Buffet’s tour in 2000 and as a resident artist at Disney World’s Harambe African Village.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience West African drumming and dance at its finest!
This program is made possible with generous underwriting, in part, from The Lorain Medina Rural Electric People Fund.
